Thank you!

W2. What is more important: the actions of individuals or the environment that influences them?

I think environment is more important to a person than individual behavior. I think that when people are in infancy, they learn from their environment and are influenced by their surroundings to form personalities. As the saying goes that a child is a 'mirror' of his or her parents, he or she copies what they say and do. No one learns and realizes alone from birth. As someone teaches children moral behavior and social norms, they grow into mature people. Some examples of criminals who have caused a great stir in our society suggest that their home environment was poor and affected their personalities. Therefore, for individuals, the environment that affects them seems to be more important than the individual's behavior.

W2. Let's look at the following pictures and try to answer: how do those people feel? Why do they act the way they do? What can we learn form answering those questions?

Image
The first picture is a homeless person in Paris. They do not settle down in one place, but wander around parks and stations. It will be frustrating to be unable to settle down in one place and live a unstable life, and they will no longer want to live their life. Usually, the reason why they become homeless is because of economic reasons such as debt and business failures, and personal reasons such as illness. They are also easily seen at subway stations in Korea. Through this, we can be homeless at any time and should not just regard them as objects of contempt. The fourth picture is a historical reenactor in France. They reproduce the event equally to commemorate a historical event. They act with a sense of mission to their proud history. We should always remember history and honor the victims by looking at the people who try not to forget it.

W2. How should a student act in order for the teacher to think the student is paing attention in class? What do do - and what not to do?

In order to make the teacher think that the student is paying attention in class, the student should make eye contact with the teacher and nodding gestures. Also, when the teacher asks a question, the student should react hard to it. This will be considered to mean that you are working hard in class. In class, students should basically take classes hard. You shouldn't chat with your friends and don' Also, you should not ask questions that are not related to the contents of the class. This is a common school rule around the world.

W2. What symbols do we see, and how do they influence our behavior?

Symbolic elements in our lives always exist and affect our behavior a lot. For example, the teacher's act of putting index finger on the mouth in a noisy classroom means we should be quiet. But the act of putting our index finger on our mouth when we take a picture is just posing. If the location and the situation change, we accept the same action in a different way. Also, each country has different cultures and norms, so symbolic gestures can be applied in different interpretations. For example, the act of raising the thumb is used as a positive sign in our country. It is used to mean "best" when praising someone, but in Greece, this act is said to be used as a curse. We always live with symbolic communication. I don't know exactly when it started, but it's clear that it's been written implicitly for a really long time. It is no exaggeration to say that our lives are a series of symbols.

W1. What is the relation between Wikipedia and collective intelligence?

Wikipedia is a worldwide participatory online encyclopedia that anyone can freely write and share their thoughts. This is related to collective intelligence. Collective intelligence refers to collective intelligence gained by the majority in collaboration with each other, one of which is Wikipedia. Repeated actions that add additional knowledge to someone's writing through Wikipedia editing will result in massive collective intelligence. So Wikipedia is a collective intelligence itself.

W1. What PRACTICAl SKILLS do you expect to gain from attending it?

I expect to learn practical skills in this class to understand the common behavior of people and the direction in which society is moving forward. Therefore, I think i can make a something that meets it. For example, with the current social distancing due to corona, people are beginning to show interest in interiors that they were not normally interested in. While being isolated at home and searching for hobbies that can be done at home, the interior began to be visible. In fact, consumption of interior props is on the rise. It is also said that the payment amount of delivery applications, such as the 'People of delivery', is so active that they hit the maximum. I also think I often use the delivery app while staying at home. In this way, the impact of society on individuals has become enormous and changed our lifestyle. I will be able to discover this phenomenon and learn skills to think of something that will satisfy people's needs.

W1. Why are you taking this class?

The name of this class itself was interesting to me. In fact, the sociology curriculum of the last semester seemed difficult to me because it was biased toward theoretical concepts rather than practical ones. However, this class was interesting because it was about applying sociology in everyday life. Furthermore, I thought that we could analyze the common patterns and habits of people to understand the meaning of the actions. It occurred to me that these processes could be helpful to my career. Actually, I was a little worried while looking at the lecture plan. I was anxious and excited at the same time whether I could accomplish all these assignments. There was a lot of homework, but I think I had a lot of worries because it gave me a lot to think about and it was an interesting topic. But in the end, I decided to take this class. As much as I thought about it, I will follow the class hard. I am looking forward to this class. I will try to learn many things through the upcoming ...
