W2. What symbols do we see, and how do they influence our behavior?
Symbolic elements in our lives always exist and affect our behavior a lot. For example, the teacher's act of putting index finger on the mouth in a noisy classroom means we should be quiet. But the act of putting our index finger on our mouth when we take a picture is just posing. If the location and the situation change, we accept the same action in a different way.
Also, each country has different cultures and norms, so symbolic gestures can be applied in different interpretations. For example, the act of raising the thumb is used as a positive sign in our country. It is used to mean "best" when praising someone, but in Greece, this act is said to be used as a curse.
We always live with symbolic communication. I don't know exactly when it started, but it's clear that it's been written implicitly for a really long time. It is no exaggeration to say that our lives are a series of symbols.
