Project 1. Assignment description

Hi, I'm Park Jimin majoring in Media and Social Infomatics. I observed the interaction in public. Actually, it was hard to go outside because of Corona 19. So I observed people at the BHC chicken restaurant where I work part-time.

The people I have observed have lived in different shapes, interestingly, in seconds, in minutes.

Objectively speaking, in my case, I want to go home as soon as I get to work and get angry because orders keep getting pushed back. But when dealing with guests, I raise my voices by two tones to speak kindly and brightly.

Gofman likened society to an actor who plays an individual on stage. He said people interpret certain situations in their own way and create images that they think will help them achieve their goals. As a service worker, I acted because I felt much nicer and nicer than the real self who wanted to go home and was angry.

And customers have been talking to their families promiscuously speaking

. "Hey, what's the back seat of the phone number?" And they've been telling me politely. "My number is 7890. Please confirm my order."

Goughman likened the personal acting situation to a mask. The guests changed their attitude when they treated me and as if they were other people. This is also related to the function of the role distance, and if they had treated me like their acquaintance, there would have been a conflict between me and them . However, the guests reduced their interpersonal conflicts by wearing masks.

Wearing a mask or acting can sometimes sound negative. However, Gofman said, "If you force yourself to take off the mask, what remains is not true self, but a human who has lost his defense." I think wearing the right mask is not a lie but a medium for maintaining relationships with people. Thank you.
