Project 1. Script
Hi, we have decided to proceed with a group project on the violation experiment with Project 1. First of all, the violation experiment, in the fields of sociology and social psychology, is to study people's reactions to violating general social rules and concepts. Sociologist Erving Goffman's study, in particular, laid the theoretical foundation for ways to study social meanings and behavioral norms of everyday life, assuming that we violate unspeakable but universally accepted rules.
What do you think is the most important issue now? It's COVID-19. COVID-19 is respiratory syndrome caused by SARS-CoV-2 infection and has symptoms such as fever, cough, and difficulty breathing. One of the ways to prevent COVID-19 transmission is to wear a mask. Wearing masks can help prevent the spread of viruses. Therefore, you must wear a mask when you go out.
However, there are people who
ignore these recommendations from the Korea Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention and do not wear masks. The so-called 'NO MASK' is emerging as a
serious social problem these days. Also, 'NO MASK' leads to crimes such as
verbal abuse and assault. So, in today's society, the act of not wearing a mask
is considered to be inappropriate.
We conducted a violation experiment to observe the reactions of people around us when we didn't wear masks.
We conducted an experiment in two cafes around the school. Only a small number of people participated in the experiment, and we practiced keeping enough distance from people just in case. Also, I wore a mask right after the experiment.
The first cafe started the experiment without wearing a mask. But because I didn't wear a mask, I was banned from the cafe at all.
At the second cafe, I wore a mask and took off my mask after sitting down. In less than 10 minutes, I could feel people's eyes. Most of the people in the cafe looked at us. But soon, there were people who were looking at their work, and there were people who were frowning. Also, some people directly told me to wear a mask.
The performer knows everything from the front to the backstage. But the audience and the outsider do not know the backstage situation because it exists only at the front. So they have no choice but to feel abnormal in the behavior of the performer. It is natural to show this negative reaction. Irving Goughman presents a view that our daily lives are like performances that produce self-effects by interacting with others on the stage of the world. Goughman believed that everyone involved in social interaction made efforts to avoid embarrassing themselves or embarrassing others.
This has been Kang Minje and Kim Minju. Thank you.
