Introduction to blogging

 This blog is a digital forum where students from Fall 2020 class in Sociology of Everyday Life at the Hanyang University in Korea will discuss their weekly readings and activities.


An ideal blog should be about 800 words, divided intro three clearly labeled sections in which you: 1) summarize in your own words of materials you read; 2) mention of any new, interesting, or unusual items learned; 3) identify at least one question, concern, or discussion angle that is either problematic in some respect or could have been elaborated more. This question is likely to be incorporated into our class discussions. You are allowed to quote interesting passage from the text(s) you've read, but the quotes will not count toward any length requirements.

Note that for this assignment you will need to create a Google Account (https://www.google.com/accounts/NewAccount). Each student will receive an emailed invite to join the blog and become its co-author. You have to accept it before you will be able to post.

Also note that unless you configure your account to do so automatically you will need to sign your blog posts with at least with your first name and initial – so I know who is posting (you can set up your username to do so automatically). Unsigned blog posts will not be graded. Also, add a label to each of your blog based on your name and initial (so for me that would be Piotr K), this will make it easy for you and me to quickly find all of your blogs (how to label a post).

Here is an example of an excellent blog post (structure, content), although note this blog is on the longer side (about 800 words). You are not required to write so much, although if you do, you may receive extra credit.

Week4 extra) About interaction assignment

The Interaction Assignment. What did you do? What did you learn? Was it fun?  I conducted a Breaching experiment for project 1. I was in a situation where I couldn't carry out my observations face-to-face. So I did an experiment using Kakao Talk, and this was the difference from Goffman. I broke the promise of my relationship with my friend through Kakao Talk. I replied coldly and badly to my friend(participant), who always exchanged friendly words. And my friend thought I had a complaint or something was wrong. It was the same view that Goffman looked at individuals who broke the rules in society. It was the first observation experiment, and the process of organizing the experiment was not easy. Also, it was hard to read English books, understand the contents, and do an experiment. However, I think I was able to realize and learn the meaning of the violation experiment. The reaction was also interesting after he told his friend that the experiment was a violation.

Week4) Review about my Interaction Assignment

  The place I have been observed is a café. The café involves a few tables and chairs. It is well designed for the outsiders to get interested.  When I was there, two kinds of people were in this place. They were the clerk and the customers.    The clerk welcomed the visitors politely and made some beverage and dessert. She was in smile for all the time facing the customers and mostly dressed in tidy clothes. After she got the orders, she stayed in the kitchen, which is staff only, taking a rest and looking at the CCTV occasionally. A few hours later, the other clerk got into the kitchen for the rotation.    Besides, in the main room of the café, the customers sit around the tables. Week 1. (extra) Why are you taking this class?

 Why are you taking this class? Sociology naturally occurs in people's lives. However, I didn't have many opportunities to think about what sociology is and how it works in our lives. As  the title of this class, I was curious and wanted to learn about the sociology of everyday life.  I am used to passive learning until I come to college, so I have a fear of active learning. But this class seems to have more active learning, so I think I can change myself from pursuing passive learning. What PRACTICAL SKILLS do you expect to gain from attending it? I just got information from Wikipedia, but I've never participated in Wikipedia myself. Through this class, I want to participate in writing in Wikipedia and get writing skills.
