[Extra] project 1 'Interaction Observation'
Hello everyone, we're yeonsu and seyeon who will present about the breaching experienment on the subway. We did a simple experiment to find out people's reactions when we made an unexpected move on the subway. Yeonsu sat with the other passengers on the subway and got up before the subway stopped at the station. Then Yeonsu stood opposite the door which was to be opened, just before the subway stopped at the station. In this situation, the performer was Yeonsu and the audiences were the people who get off at the station with her. And Seyeon was the observer. When she did this, some followed her without knowing the situation, and some seemed embarrassed by her unexpected behavior. In the subway, most people were so focused on their cell phones that they were not aware of the exact door to get off. So they unconsciously followed her behavior. People didn't really say anything but just follow. They were standing on the other side of the door following Yeonsu, preparing to get off. But when the other door actually opened, they looked at her strangely and hurried down the other side.
According to Erving Goffman’s theory, the person in the front stage is Yeonsu and the audiences are in the same space. Also, the role of performer, Yeonsu is close to Shill. Although she was a performer, she acted naturally as if she was part of audience inducing reactions from audiences. Also, except for those who interacted with Yeonsu to get off at the station, the people who were in the same space but were not affected are Outsiders. Their role in the experiment was Non-Person. They exist at the backstage, but they are not part of the show and have been ignored by Performers and audiences.
